"The Darkest Star" (Origin) by Jennifer L. Armentrout [Review]

After finishing the Lux series, I found out that the author had written a spinoff series, and a friend of mine recommended I read this book. This book takes place four years after the events of the last book in the Lux series, "Opposition." The world has now been made aware of the existence of Luxen, though many are unaware that they've been around since before the invasion. Also unsuspected by a majority of the population is the existence of hybrids, Arum, and Origins. When Evie accompanies her friend Heidi to the club named Fortoken in the hopes of impressing Heidi's crush, she never expected to meet someone from her forgotten past, an Origin named Luc (pronounced Luke), or be thrust into his hidden Luxen-based world. But when blonde girls like her from her high school end up abducted and then found dead, Evie finds herself the target of a vengeful Origin. One that Luc will have to defeat in order to save her. I absolutely LOVED this book. Dare I say it's even better than the Lux series? It's got more hidden passion and mystery, but still has the sci-fi intense battles that the prior series had. And one of the enjoyable added bonuses to this series is it brings some of the other characters into the series, Daemon and Archer being just two of them. This is a book I found hard to put down. It was exciting, swoon-worthy, suspenseful at times, and very gripping. If the rest of the series is anything like it's a debut book, it's definitely going to be a popular best-selling series, perhaps even more so than its predecessor. Fans of sci-fi, romance, suspenseful battles, and for readers who would love to discover the hidden mysterious of a girl's past with her, start reading this series.
