"One Way or Another" by Kara McDowell [Review]

Thanks to Edelweiss Plus for an advanced copy in exchange for a review.

Paige, living in Arizona with her divorced mom and an anxiety disorder, is presented with the choice between two last-minute Christmas trips. The first being a trip to New York City with her mom while staying with family friends (college recent-breakup Harrison and his sick dad). The second is a trip to a snowy, mountain cabin with her long-time crush/best friend Fitz and his family. While at the grocery store using a Magic 8 app, Paige slips and her world splits into two; one where she goes to New York, and the other where she goes with Fitz to the cabin.

The split/parallel worlds are what originally drew me to the book. I liked seeing the two choices playing out, and I really enjoyed the little moments where the worlds sort of mix. (Example: Paige hears from her gal-pal about Fitz coming to help fix her and her stranded boyfriend in one world, and Paige goes with Fitz to help them in the other).

There wasn’t really anything I can really point out about the book that I didn’t like. It was a good Young Adult Christmas Romance story that made me question who the main character would eventually end up with: reluctant tour-guide Harrison from New York City, or Fitz.

I have to say I was surprised, but not disappointed, by the ending of BOTH fates. The Epilogue could have fit in both Fates, but I don’t know which one was the ‘real’ fate.

Anyway, if you love Christmas Romances or parallel universes, you’ll really enjoy this book.
