"Lucky Caller" by Emma Mills [Review]

This is my second Emma Mills book, and I got an advanced copy from Edelweiss Plus to review.

What drew me to the book was that it was for fans of Jenny Han (To All The Boys I've Loved Before and The Summer I Turned Pretty series) and Morgan Matson (Save the Date and Since You've Been Gone). And, as I have said, I read Famous in a Small Town by the author as well.

Senior Indiana teen Nina (the middle of 3 sisters) ends up working with her classmates (including former male friend Jamie) in a group project for a radio broadcasting class that spirals out of control. Plus, she might have feelings for him.

This seems like a typical story by the author: a small-town teen girl has a struggle of some sort while trying not to fall in love with a boy. But some of the side characters, Joydeep especially, felt kind of boring to me. And I would have preferred the group to do a different type of show other than Songs of the 90s just because it was convenient for them. I wanted to read a little more of a challenge in that arena. Sorry, but Kasie West's Listen to Your Heart was still my favorite radio broadcasting YA book.

The sisters felt too typical, and nothing really special about them. I did like the sisterly moments between Syd, Rose, and Nina, though. And the description of the apartment setting, including Nina and Jamie working in the apartment, made me want to see if it's as grand as it was described.

This is a light teen read, but my favorite by the author was still the other one.
