Thank you Edelweiss Plus for giving me an advanced copy of this book. SoCal preteen Keiko is starting the seventh grade with her long time best friends, Audrey and Jenna (the latter just returning from visiting her divorced Dad in Texas for the summer). But when Audrey (total girly-girl) wants them to have boyfriends, things get a little bit rocky in their trio friendship, especially when Jenna seems to have a relationship with the boy Audrey wants for herself. And to top it off, Jenna and Audrey's disagreement puts Keiko in the middle. I liked Keiko. She seemed realistic and your teen. I loved her enjoyment of chocolates, and especially dark chocolates (to which I'm a fan of myself). Jenna was a good supporting character. I didn't really like Audrey, though. She was really whiney when she didn't get her way, and I found myself rolling my eyes at her when she became dramatic. But I liked how it was discovered the reason why Audrey acted so mean towards her brother's dog. If there is a sequel to this story, I hope her character has more growth. Conner, Audrey's brother, despite the name-calling, seemed like your typical preteen boy; hanging out with friends, playing basketball, etc. I didn't like Gregory, though. He felt a little too self-centered to be a good love interest. Anyway, this is a great light read for middle-grade students. I'm glad I picked this one up.
