"Maybe This Time" by Kasie West [Review]

The first thing that drew me to this book (besides the fact that it’s a YA Contemporary Romance from Kasie West) is that I like the idea of a couple meeting and falling in love at special events/occasions over the course of a year. Having the story take place over a year doesn’t make the romance feel rushed, which I thoroughly enjoyed. This story is told from the first person narrative of Sophie, who works for her small Alabama town florist. She dreams of leaving and going to New York City for design school. However, during the course of end-of-Junior-and-beginning-of-senior-year in high school, she runs into the son of a famous chef, Andrew. His father is mentoring her best friend Micah’s up-and-coming-chef father, so the three of them (Sophie, Andrew, and Micah) find themselves at a lot of the same events; everything from a retirement home's Valentine’s Day dinner to June weddings to Fall Festivals. At first annoyed by Andrew, Sophie starts to wonder if she might have feelings for him. This feels natural and realistic, if somewhat whimsical too. Sophie and Andrew's banter is enjoyable to watch. And Sophie's struggles with her family life feel relatable to anyone who's had similar struggles with their families. Any fans of Kasie West, you will not be disappointed with this one. It’s a cute, enjoyable YA Contemporary Romance, one worth definitely adding to your collection. 5 out of 5 stars.
