"What I Carry" by Jennifer Longo [Review]

What I Carry is a fitting title for this story. It's about a girl, Muir, who grew up in foster care and moves to an island off Washington state to stay with a foster mother, Francine. She plans on aging out of the foster care system, but what happens when she gets attached to a best friend, boyfriend, and Francine?

I loved the bits where we (the readers) learned about Muir's past experiences in other foster care houses. It helped us learn more about her personality and helps the readers understand why Muir has no hope of getting adopted.

Kira was a really good side character, one I didn't think I'd like, and her side story with dealing with bullies was enjoyable. It didn't get too over-extremed and Muir did a great job of being a supportive friend.

I also loved the holiday parts, but wish it hadn't skipped New Year's and Valentine's day. Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter were enjoyable, though.

This is a good read, one I'm glad I read.
