"American Royals" by Katharine McGee [Review]

What first drew me to the book was the concept of the book: What if America had a royal family?

The story focuses on the lives of four women: Queen-to-Be Beatrice, her sister Princess Samantha, Samantha's twin brother's ex Daphne, and Samantha's best friend Nina. There are four separate storylines, one focusing on each woman, yet they're beautifully intertwined together.

I enjoyed watching Beatrice's struggles with her upcoming duties as America's first Queen-born and her inner battles when it came to marry for love or marry for the crown. She felt like a real person, and she's a favorite character of mine.

Princess Samantha had her own struggle when it came to love too (no spoilers). I loved the scenes with her and Beatrice. They felt like real sisters, that they loved each other yet got in squabbles as well. I still feel like there's more to her, and can't wait to see what the sequel holds for this still unfolding character.

Nina is the commoner of the group, brought into the royal family when her mama starts working at the palace back when she was a child. Soon, she starts falling for the Prince and finds out what life is like being associated in a romantic relationship with a member of the royal family: The good, the bad, and the ugly. She was the one I related to the most and is my other favorite.

Daphne is the ex-girlfriend of Prince Jefferson. She's one of those characters you just love to hate, but kind of becomes sympathetic when you learn the reason behind her actions (no spoilers). After reading her last chapter, I can't wait to see what is to be for this character in the future.

I am definitely going to read the sequel and can't wait for it.
