"Growing Up with Aloha" (American Girl Nanea) by Kirby Larson - Review

When I heard earlier this year that they were going to bring out a Hawaiian character from 1941, I was ecstatic. The 1940s home front is my favorite era to read about, and Hawaii is one of my favorite places in the world (if not top, in the top 3 at least).

This is a marvelous edition to the American Girl BeForever line. I love everything about the book. I felt like I couldn't put it down. Can't wait to read the second one and see Nanea's story continue.

It really shows you a kids-eye view of what happened following the events of the Pearl Harbor bombing in Hawaii. Although the event was terrible, and some sad things happened after, Nanea fights to keep the aloha spirit (which this book does show).

(Side note: Nanea is pronounced Nah-nay-ah)
